DIABETES NURSE EDUCATOR

Job Summary

DMI Centre is seeking to recruit a Diabetes Nurse Educator on an annual contract, with extension subject to funds availability and performance of the incumbent.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Promote the mission, vision and values of the organization.
  • Provide health education related to diabetes and the disease process as well as self-care management.
  • Providing relevant healthcare services such as diabetes, growth-development and reproductive health to the youth.
  • Providing counselling to patients/clients and community on psychosocial issues.
  • Implementing recommendations from research findings for improvement of care.
  • Referring patients and clients appropriately.
  • Maintaining records on patients’/clients’ health conditions and care.
  • Ensuring a tidy and safe clinical environment and identifying occupational health needs.
  • Planning, implementing interventions and preparing periodic reports.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial and legal information.
  • Coordinate and participate in outreach programs such as community awareness and screening, school health, home visits and media engagement.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients/clients, staff, partners or others in a professional manner.
  • Perform other activities as per the need of the organization with guidance from the supervisor.

Qualification and Experience

  • Served in the grade of Registered Nurse III for a minimum period of two (2) years.
  • Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery, Kenya Registered Nursing/Midwifery or Kenya Registered Nursing/Mental Health and Psychiatry from a- recognized institution.
  • Valid practicing license and registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Participated in diabetes prevention and management activities.
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
  • Must have attended a certified diabetes training course.
  • Valid certificate of good conduct is mandatory.
