DMI Centre is seeking to recruit a Diabetes Nurse Educator on an annual contract, with extension subject to funds availability and performance of the incumbent.
Duties and responsibilities
Promote the mission, vision and values of the organization.
Provide health education related to diabetes and the disease process as well as self-care management.
Providing relevant healthcare services such as diabetes, growth-development and reproductive health to the youth.
Providing counselling to patients/clients and community on psychosocial issues.
Implementing recommendations from research findings for improvement of care.
Referring patients and clients appropriately.
Maintaining records on patients’/clients’ health conditions and care.
Ensuring a tidy and safe clinical environment and identifying occupational health needs.
Planning, implementing interventions and preparing periodic reports.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial and legal information.
Coordinate and participate in outreach programs such as community awareness and screening, school health, home visits and media engagement.
Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients/clients, staff, partners or others in a professional manner.
Perform other activities as per the need of the organization with guidance from the supervisor.
Qualification and Experience
Served in the grade of Registered Nurse III for a minimum period of two (2) years.
Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery, Kenya Registered Nursing/Midwifery or Kenya Registered Nursing/Mental Health and Psychiatry from a- recognized institution.
Valid practicing license and registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
Participated in diabetes prevention and management activities.
Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
Must have attended a certified diabetes training course.
Valid certificate of good conduct is mandatory.
